Historical Background

Original Sign In the 1960’s, Al Harris, then a farm equipment dealer, saw the need for a specialized agricultural parts service in Western Canada. Although a number of quality “shortline” manufacturers were represented in the Canadian west, they were unable to provide adequate parts service, an important factor in providing service to agriculture.

Original Red Deer Building In 1970, Al started a service for Alberta dealers, and in February of 1973, Westward Parts Services Ltd. was incorporated as a separate business.

Original Regina Building A Regina warehouse was opened in February of 1974. The Company, like most family businesses, had modest beginnings, and grew steadily throughout the seventies and eighties through good customer service. Westward Parts soon expanded to serve Manitoba and British Columbia dealers.

Original Regina Building Westward Parts then expanded beyond the replacement parts market by expanding to small equipment, combine attachments and harvest items. One of the largest volume items was the Pickup Reel manufactured by MacDon Industries in Winnipeg. Because of its weight, the staff at Westward Parts nicknamed this attachment the “Red Devil”.

Trade Show Late in 1992, Westward Parts acquired most of the inventory and assets of City Machinery Limited, a large Winnipeg based industrial distributor. This thrust the distribution of parts into Ontario and Eastern Canada. Westward Parts was now supplying bearings, power transmission products, tools, components, and general industrial supplies to a large number of industrial and commercial customers, and supplying specialized items to Original Equipment Manufacturers. Late in 2008, Westward Parts acquired the sprayer business of Spray-Tech Systems Ltd. and continues to manufacture and distribute these sprayers under the Spray-Tech brand name.

Sign On April 1, 2012, Westward Parts Services Ltd. became a wholly owned subsidiary of MacDon Industries Ltd. Westward Parts will continue to operate in the same fashion as always with most of the same long time employees.

In the fall of 2012, Westward Parts began marketing the lawn and garden equipment, sprayers and three point hitch equipment under the “Westward Estate Equipment” brand. As well as the Westward Estate Sprayers, Spray-Tech Estate Sprayers and Westward Lawnkeepers that are produced in Red Deer, Westward Estate Equipment also includes items manufactured by other reliable manufacturers such as Worksaver and Agri-Fab.

Since its establishment, Westward Parts has grown steadily and can now supply one of the largest selection of “all makes parts and power transmission products” in Canada. Westward Parts’ growth has been accomplished by aggressively pursuing manufacturers, the world over, that can supply top quality products at competitive prices.

The great majority of products Westward Parts supplies are manufactured in Canada or the United States, while a small percentage of them are imported from Europe and the Pacific Rim. Westward Parts has enjoyed long continuous relationships with many of its important suppliers. This assures the Westward Parts customers a reliable product base that will continue to be supported.

Westward Parts is now over forty years strong and will continue to expand the product offering to better serve the customer base.
